luma is an atmospheric light fixture using mushroom mycelium. The light is mounted on a sphere, allowing it to be rotated in any direction. The wooden housing in the center enables height adjustment of the mycelium, thereby altering the tilt of the light.

What is mycelium?

Mycelium is like the roots of mushrooms. It grows mostly underground and plays an important role in nature. It breaks down things like old wood, using them as a substrate in order to grow on them.

Properties of mycelium

A durable material that requires only few resources, grows quickly in nutrient-poor substrates, and can help remediate contaminated soil.

Organic shaped gill

The lamp is composed of two elements. The first element, crafted from mycelium composite, draws its form from the delicate gill structures that lie beneath most mushrooms.

Vertical stem

The second part of the lamp complements the first component as a vertical stem It consists of two parts, connected by magnets.

Improving functionality by making disassembly easier and the light tilt adjustable.

Swappable rings

Making it easy to disassemble, this feature opens up possibilities for customization with rings of varying shapes.

Turning the housing with maple wood and shaping the mycelium composite with 3D-printed forms.
